The poopiest day in the history of poopy days

December 30, 2009 by kaylab23

Today was great up until about 5:30. I’ll recap the first portion of the day before starting the last. The test in the morning went decent. I know I got a number of them wrong but I felt good about the other questions. Hopefully I will do better than the last one. Even the retake was rough. I visited with some of the ladies before going to lunch. We had a rescheduled oral comprehension test that actually was crazy easy. Afterwards we had our last Etude class. Sad day my friends. I was going to really miss the teacher and the class. It was just a day of snacks and visiting so that’s good. The teacher invited us to sign up for a writing competition too. My group decided to go ahead and enter. It would be nice to get some feedback on our story. Afterwards we had our last hour break in the atrium before labo. I was quite excited to be done finally but it didn’t quite seem real. It felt kinda like a typical day. We didn’t have much of a class, we just ended up playing telephone. Afterwards I rushed home to grab my phone I left there and head straight to the train station to pick up Cade. Unfortunately he was getting in at 6:50 and not 6 like I thought. Double unfortunately I got home to a message saying he had missed his first train and would now be getting in at 10. No more gallette party and going out to meet up with everyone for our last thursday night out. Plus no more seeing Cade til hours later. I was in a super terrible mood now. The countdown just extended itself. No good. Anyway, I go on with the evening only to get another call saying he missed the next train cuz the one he was one was late. He would now be in at 11. triple poo. After this I get a call again and hear that the train is delayed and it’ll be in at 12:15. Quadruple poo. Seriously. It did make finally seeing him even more rewarding I guess but I definitely wasn’t a happy camper about it all. We tried to make the best of it and enjoy the time we did have. Tomorrow was my last day in Rennes so I wanted to make the most of it.

Baking queen

Despite the terrible uneventful joke of a test we had this morning in our last civ class, the day ended up being quite busy. I ran some errands and gathered supplies for my giant baking adventure. I baked some peanut butter cookies with the chocolate in the middle. It was tough not to test out the cookies cuz I made just enough for the class. It  was my host sister’s birthday also so we went to her place that evening for some appetizers and drinks. It was nice to see everyone probably for the last time, at least all together like that. It was a good time. We went home at a decent hour cuz I still had to bake a pie and study a bit. The pie backing as a fun time with my host mom and afterwards I caught up with Cade and studied before bed. Tomorrow’s test was going to be a tough one.

The Last Hell Monday EVER!

December 17, 2009 by kaylab23

YAY! It was finally the LAST hell monday EVER! It was a special bonus that we didn’t have our first class and started at 10:15. I slept 12 solid hours so I woke up nice and refreshed. My first test went alright, then on to get my Etude test back..It was mediocre, the score itself wasn’t that low but definitely lower than what I had hoped for and what I knew I could have done with more time. Poops :( I decided to focus on the fact that I did above the average for the class. Press was a joke and I finished up the last part of the test in 10 minutes and left. Nice. The night went as usual but this time I started packing. Eek. It felt quite weird and I have a lot of work cut out for me. It did feel good though. Made the fact that I am going home in a week a lot more obvious. Pretty soon I will get to tell all these stories face to face with all you guys! I miss everyone incredibly!

I woke up at 4:30 to the post party goers, who then made me teat and peanut butter toast. :) I then had to get ready for my 5:30 bus to the airport. It was a pretty decent journey and I made it on the plane without any problems. We took off on time at 7:40 and I was in Paris on time as well. I went ahead an hour in time as well since there is a time difference between england and france. I had quite a bit of extra time til my train so I ate and meandered around but I was so tired I could barely stand. I took some mini desperate eye rests. I hopped on my train and it was off to Rennes. I barely did anything that night and just wasted time til a decent time to go to bed. I made it til 9:30…then I was out.

it’s beginning to look a lot like christmas…

December 14, 2009 by kaylab23

After yesterday, it felt a bit more like christmas since they had much more lights and festive decorations than Rennes, but what sealed the deal was watching Home Alone 2 on TV this morning. Perfect. I had a delicious breakfast and we all got ready to head back into town. We relaxed a bit before heading out to a delicious vegetarian restaurant called the Egg. It was definitely as good as described. Afterwards we went to the cathedrals. The first one was actually just the shell of the church. It was bombed out during the war but it was still real interesting to see. We then went to the huge old church. It was gorgeous! Probably one of the biggest I’ve seen yet. There was also a choir singing. It filled the whole chapel.  and we sat and listened to the wonderful music. It was so peaceful and beautiful. Afterwards Brittany and I went down to Albert dock just as sunrise was hitting. Perfect timing. It was so pretty. The Beatle’s store was up next and after that some shopping. It was a little rough here though since the pound is worth double the dollar. We decided to hop on the huge ferris wheel they have in this shopping center. We got all loaded up and went half way around (this would put us almost at the top) when we ended up stopping for quite a bit longer than it takes to load people up. I just mentioned something when all the electricity in the wheel went out. It was a bit creepy to say the least. It continued to go on and off for a bit until it was just off for a while. I was just starting to get a bit more worried when all the cars on the wheel started to rock back and forth. It was then I started to actually worry for real. The wheel slowly started reversing itself and we had to all get off. We all got our money back after that. It wasn’t quite a ferris wheel ride but it was an experience either way :) We went home to have some pizza before heading to her friend’s birthday party. I had quite a bit of fun there. She and Joe have great friends. Chatting and meeting new people was definitely what I needed. I went home at about 12:30 and made into bed at about 1:30…that left me with 3 hours of possible sleep before I had to get up to catch the bus…suuuuper…

Liverpoooool!!

December 14, 2009 by kaylab23

I started a real early day and headed to Liverpool for some adventures and to catch up with friends. I was quite excited and the trip went pretty well. I arrived and they let me in the country and I met up with Brittany. We hopped on a bus (of course a double decker, on top) and headin in to the city center and caught up on the way. Her flat was quite lovely and we had some tea before she headed out and I went on a tour of the city with her boyfriend Joe. We went to some fun places that I probably wouldn’t have seen without a local. Best part: THEY HAD STARBUCKS!!! Now I am not a huge starbucks devout fan, but I haven’t had anything but seriously strong espresso and milk never in to go cups and never bigger than a smal mug. I had probably 4 lattes in a matter of 2 days. YUM. It was like a mini taste of home. We went to Joe’s mom’s house later that night for a yummy dinner. She was a great cook and it was nice to have something out of the ordinary. She was also the cutest little english woman. I had such a great night with everyone. It was so cozy and so family like :) We crashed pretty early since we had all had long nights and early morning.  I was having such a great time already. I went to bed looking forward to another great day tomorrow.

This was the second to last lecture for history. Yes, I am counting down. They’re not even remotely interesting. Longest 2 hours of my week. Oi vay. Anywho, the thursday schedule has actually perked up a bit this last half since I met a new group of people. We have kinda become regulars. They are all from New York but I really enjoy hangin out with em. I got through classes alright and headed home for some dindin. We had a tasty onion tarte and salad. I laid low the rest of the night. Nothing too big. This weekend was going to be busy though.

Le Mont St. Michel

December 7, 2009 by kaylab23

Today started out terrible but got much better once class ended. It took everything in me to roll out of bed this morning and go to class. Ugh I just kept saying how I can’t skip cuz it’s so close to the final. Boy was I wrong. What a waste of time. He stuck in some video about the last presidential election’s losing left candidate. It was all mysterious and made her look like this amazingly wonderful flawless person. It was such a load of crock and such a waste of time. Not only that but the teacher sat down right in front of me so I couldn’t even read or write letters. Oi. Noo good. Finally it ended so I could get on with my day. Lydia and I were going to the Mont St. Michel with my host mom and new host sister. We got picked up headed out for our hour drive up. It’s this big castle thing on the sea, literally, it’s an island when tide comes in. It was quite gorgeous and walking around the Abbaye was fantastic. So pretty. We had a good time visiting and ate some tasty lunch. Afterwards we stopped at a biscuiterie to get some tasty nomnoms. The rest of the day was quite lazy. I was suuuper tired from all the walking and getting up early. It was a good day though and I am glad I had time to fit in the visit. It isn’t a place everyone gets to go but is definitely worth the trip.

and this is laaadies night

December 2, 2009 by kaylab23

Tuesday was a typical tuesday. I worked quite a bit on homework. Quite productive actually. Classes were alright but I was more looking forrward to the girls sushi night later on.  I took Colleen home with me since she lives so far away and didn’t have time to go home and come back in time for dinner. We pit stopped at my house and then headed up. The sushi was excellent as usual. Enjoyed every last bite. We headed to La Paix for the usual chocolate and chat fix. The rest of the night went great as usual. Pretty good for a tuesday.
